Suggested to have been produced to mark the launch of Rolex’s ‘Green seal’ certification which goes far beyond the existing COSC chronometer mark, the green dial 116508 Daytona has become something of a cult watch. Already produced in low quantities, the promotion of the watch on a high-profile watch blog by musician John Mayer piqued collectors’ interest and extended the waiting lists by years. This unworn example from 2020 is available with some stickers still present across the case back, clasp and bezel guard.

The 40mm Oyster case crafted from 18k yellow gold houses a perpetual self-winding mechanical chronograph movement with a 72-hour power reserve. Capable of keeping accurate time to within -2/+2 sec a day, the Daytona offers functions including centre hour, minute, and seconds hands, along with a small seconds hand at 6 o'clock.

The chronograph is accurate to within 1/8 of a second. With start and stop timekeeping controlled by the characteristic screw-down pushers.

A fixed bezel also in 18 ct yellow gold displays an engraved tachymetric scale to further aid legibility and accurate timekeeping at speed or within a glance. The luxurious green dial also evokes a sense of vintage racing heritage.

Waterproof to 100m, aided by the screw-down crown with Triplock triple waterproofness system and with a scratch-resistant sapphire protecting the dial, this, despite its opulence is still a very capable and wearable tool watch.

Available with original box and papers, in unworn condition, with several factory stickers still in place, this ref. 116508 represents a rare opportunity to own a flagship Rolex model.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
