The ref. 5738/50P-001 was launched in 2018 as a 100-piece limited edition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Golden Ellipse. A watch that has maintained somewhat of a cult status in the Patek Philippe catalogue, it's the company’s second longest running model line - preceded only by the Calatrava. The watch’s elliptical shape - somewhere between a circle and a rectangle - is designed using the ‘golden ratio’ and characterised by its unique lugless case. A diamond placed in the case at 6 o’clock signifies its platinum construction.

The black enamel dial features a hand-engraved voluté pattern intricately carved into an 18K white gold plate. Turning the watch over the solid platinum case back shows a commemorative engraving marking the model’s anniversary. Housed underneath this is the in-house calibre 240 movement, a mere 2.5mm high with a 48-hour power reserve. Complementing the watch’s aesthetic is a black alligator strap and a pin buckle that echoes the Golden Ellipse’s shape.

This example is presented in excellent condition. It’s also accompanied by a set of white gold cufflinks which feature the same engraved volute pattern as the watch. Also included in the sale are the certificate of origin, presentation box, and swing tag.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
