Dubbed the ‘Watchmaker’s Watchmaker’, Jaeger LeCoultre has a history of building beautiful and technically interesting watches in addition to supplying movements to haute horology brands. The company’s Duomètre line showcases its technical mastery through the use of caliber 381.

This movement employs a ‘Dual-Wing’ concept, meaning it has two unique energy sources. The first is dedicated to creating precise timing, whereas the second is devoted to displaying functions - the hour, minutes, seconds, and moon phase. It’s essentially two movements in one - but synchronised through a jumping seconds hand.

Jaeger LeCoultre manages to squeeze all of that into a very wearable 42mm case. The Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire we see here is fashioned from 18k yellow gold and in very limited numbers, 300 to be precised. The lugs and bezel are polished, and the sides are satin finished. At 10 o’clock we have a rectangular pusher dedicated to changing the date, and a crown at 3 o’clock for performing all other functions. Paired with the watch is a Jaeger LeCoultre alligator leather strap and an 18k yellow gold deployant buckle.

With its finely grained texture, the off white dial is divided into several sections, echoing the movement architecture that sits beneath. The dial on the right side displays the time, and Arabic numerals are applied at 3,6,9 and 12 o’clock. On the left, we see the sub-dial containing a radial date display, age of the moon indicator, and a photo-realistic burgundy moon phase in the centre. The dial cut-outs at the bottom show two power reserve indicators - one for each barrel. Finally, the sub-dial at 6 o’clock displays a jumping seconds hand that moves in 6th of a second increments.

The watch is presented in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear to the case and leather strap. Jaeger LeCoultre carried out a full service in July 2016. Also included in the sale is a wooden presentation box, papers, and a loupe for marvelling at the expertly finished case, dial, and movement.

All watches offered for sale are searched and cleared against The Watch Register database and a certificate is available to the winning bidder upon request.
